SSL Redirect

By default voyager redirects (301) to HTTPS if TLS is enabled for that ingress. If you want to disable that behavior globally, you can use ingress.appscode.com/ssl-redirect: "false" annotation.

When using SSL offloading outside of cluster (e.g. AWS ELB) it may be useful to enforce a redirect to HTTPS even when there is not TLS cert available. This can be achieved by using the ingress.appscode.com/force-ssl-redirect: "true" annotation. It will redirect for all port 80 HTTP paths to HTTPS.

Ingress Example

apiVersion: voyager.appscode.com/v1beta1
kind: Ingress
metadata:
  name: test-ingress
  namespace: default
  annotations:
    ingress.appscode.com/ssl-redirect: "false"
spec:
  tls:
  - secretName: tls-secret
    hosts:
    - voyager.appscode.test
  rules:
  - host: voyager.appscode.test
    http:
      paths:
      - path: /foo
        backend:
          serviceName: test-server
          servicePort: 80

Since TLS enabled for voyager.appscode.test, by default it will add redirect scheme https for that host in generated haproxy.cfg. But as we disabled ssl-redirect through annotation, no redirect rule generated.

With force redirect

apiVersion: voyager.appscode.com/v1beta1
kind: Ingress
metadata:
  name: test-ingress
  namespace: default
  annotations:
    ingress.appscode.com/force-ssl-redirect: "true"
spec:
  rules:
  - host: voyager.appscode.test
    http:
      paths:
      - path: /foo
        backend:
          serviceName: test-server
          servicePort: 80

Although no TLS specified, redirect scheme https added for all port 80 HTTP paths as we enabled force-redirect.
